Parents want more time for kids play, research shows

Date: 13/08/2009 / Category: School holidays and working parents

Nearly three-quarters of parents would like more time to play with their children, according to figures from ICM.

Commissioned by Play England, the research shows that more than half of parents feel work or other unavoidable commitments limit their time to support their kids' play.

And it is not only parents who feel there is not enough time for play - children themselves say things such as homework and extra-curricular activities get in the way of play time.

"Children and adults alike are telling us that the pressures of modern life are restricting time for children to play and that this makes them unhappy," commented Adrian Voce, director of Play England.

To combat time pressures on kids play, adults suggested that more places for children to play independently should be introduced and flexible working offered to give parents the chance to spend more time with their kids.

The research was released to mark Playday, the annual celebration of children's right to play.ADNFCR-2594-ID-19306665-ADNFCR
