Thame Playday praised for success

The success of the Thame Playday 2010 encouraging exercise for kids in Oxfordshire has been praised by the event organisers.
More than 300 children participated in the event, which forms part of a national celebration of the right for children to play.
Speaking to Thame Today, one of the event organisers Jamie Hazeldine explained: "It was fantastic to see so many children, particularly from the local children's centres, benefit from what Thame has to offer and it would not have been possible to achieve this without the support of the local community."
Earlier this week, Play England noted that play is important for the health and wellbeing of children, adding that it is something they tend to enjoy.
Senior communications officer at the organisation Ken Ryan added that one problem affecting child's play is the restrictions placed on kids' independent mobility.
He added: "When children go out they are not always going to head to the playground – they might be in the street having a kick about with the football."
