Playing with food 'key to enjoying it'

Children are more likely to eat their fruits and vegetables if they are allowed to play with food-shaped toys throughout the day, it has been claimed.

Organic play equipment manufacturer Under the Nile recommends keeping veggie and fruit-shaped toys on the kitchen counter so they are always accessible for imaginative play or discussions.

"Once the children are enjoying the activity, capitalize on the fun times by serving carrot sticks, green beans, fruit portions or other kid-friendly 'green' snacks to reinforce the notion that eating fruit and vegetables doesn't have to be a chore," the group added.

The organisation went on to say that parents who establish a fun connection between youngsters and their fruits and vegetables will be more likely to convince them to eat them as they get older.

Last week, parenting journalist Tanith Carey wrote in the Mirror that if breakfast time is made fun, children will be more likely to eat a full meal at the start of the day.ADNFCR-2594-ID-19340381-ADNFCR
