Gambado: Great Ormond Street fundraiser huge success
Date: 08/10/2009 / Category: Kids party ideas
Gambado's indoor play centre in Chelsea raised an estimated £14,000 yesterday for the Theatres for Theatres appeal at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The kids' play centre raised the money by holding a kids party for under-fives between 9.30am and 11am and under-tens had an afternoon tea party between 4pm and 6pm with party food and goody bags included.
In-between playing on the giant play frame, which has over 110 fun activities inside including mini climbing wall, laser games, slides, obstacle courses, dodgems and a full-scale carousel ride, children could get their faces painted and parents could take part in a lucky dip, raffle and auction.
Prizes included an "ultimate" shopping experience at Harrods, two-dozen Mimi's cupcakes, a children's party at the Admiral Codrington, restaurant vouchers for the Capital Hotel and a cut and colour at Real Hair.
Celebrities including Geri Halliwell and Tamara Beckwith attended the fundraiser, which Deborah Jones, general manager at Gambado, estimated had raised between £13,000 and £14,000.
All proceeds are going towards Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity Theatres for Theatres Appeal which aims to raise £4 million for two operating theatres to help children with complex neurological and craniofacial conditions.
"It was really successful - we've already had calls today saying that it was fantastic, a really nice atmosphere, all the customers were lovely and hopefully we have made quite a large chunk of money for the Theatres for Theatres appeal," said Ms Jones.
She added that Gambado hopes to do something similar "if not bigger" in the future.
