'Millions' invested in increasing exercise for kids opportunities in London
The Mayor of London has said he is investing "millions" in sports and play areas in London so that children will have the opportunity to take part in a greater number of fitness activities for kids.
Boris Johnson's comments follow the publication of a new report from London Metropolitan University and City University of New York called A Tale of Two ObesCities.
The report highlights the high obesity levels of children in both London and New York.
"Cycling, swimming, football and running round parks are great physical exercise and, most importantly, immense fun," said Mr Johnson.
He noted that, on top of encouraging more fitness activities for kids, he aims to tackle the fast food companies that "mercilessly lure children into excessive calorie consumption".
It was recently reported that overweight children in Portsmouth are soon to benefit from exercise for kids sessions thanks to a Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it! programme.
