A special school for children with autism spectrum disorders is to undergo an £8 million redevelopment, including the addition of a soft play room.
Rosehill school in Nottingham caters solely for children aged between five and 19 who have autistic spectrum disorders.
Andy Sloan, deputy head teacher at Rosehill, told the Independent that the addition of a soft play centre and other features will allow the children to feel more comfortable as they learn and develop.
"It's about designing an ordered environment where pupils feel safe and finding ways of coping with autism. You can't cure it, but you can learn to live with it," he said.
Last month, a spokesperson for TreeHouse, the national charity for autism education, said that those working with young children, such as staff at indoor play centres, should be given training in how to support kids with autism.
She said that this would increase the children's confidence and the chances of them to going on to lead "happy and fulfilled" lives.
