Medical centre installs soft play area to aid kids' recovery

A medical centre in Georgia, America, has installed an indoor soft play area to provide its young patients with a safe, fun environment for kids to play in.

Barbara Meeks, vice president of paediatric patient care services at MCGHealth Children's Medical Center, said she was "thrilled" with the soft play area.

"While our new playground is certainly a place for fun, it has also been specifically designed to complement the physical and occupational therapy needs of our patients," she added.

The soft play area includes a flowered tree and dinosaur that both promote climbing and building motor strength, said Jeff Maerschalk, business development manager at the company that designed and built the play area, PLAYTIME.

There is also a giant log in the centre on which the child patients can work on their balance and coordination.

Wall-mounted games and puzzles help the kids to develop their problem solving skills and hand/eye coordination.

Earlier this month, it was reported that medical professionals at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ohio were using gentle exercise for kids to improve the muscle memory and endurance of young patients with cerebral palsy.
