ADHD children "lack brain reward system"

Date: 09/09/2009 / Category: Indoor play for disability schools and groups

A brain-imaging study has found that children suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have lower-than-normal levels of certain proteins essential for experiencing reward and motivation.

The Brookhaven National Laboratory study appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association and has important implications for treatment of the condition.

Study co-author Gene-Jack Wang, chair of Brookhaven's medical department said finding ways to address the reward-system deficit could potentially reduce the likelihood of other negative consequences of the condition.

Website familyplayandlearn.com says that ADHD children change their activity frequently and have difficulty staying still, waiting for a turn and maintaining attention.

Indoor play centres provide a safe and interesting environment for kids play with a number of different areas and activities for children to choose from.

The National Attention Deficit Disorder Information and Support Service recommends youngsters with the condition get lots of physical activity during the day as kids play can help children wear themselves out and improve their quality of sleep.ADNFCR-2594-ID-19352834-ADNFCR
